When you take a "wing-it" approach to social media, several things tend to happen:
You end up wasting valuable time scrambling to create posts at the last minute.
Your content feels disjointed, lacking the consistency your audience craves.
And, most importantly, you're likely falling short of achieving your business goals.
A plan gives you clarity, saves you time, and ensures your posts are aligned with your audience and goals. Plus, when you have a system, it feels a whole lot less stressful!
The 1 Hour Social Media Planning System
Ready to transform how you approach social media? Here’s a simple, 3-step system that’ll take you just 1 hour a week to execute.
Step 1: Brainstorm Your Content (20 minutes)
Start by identifying 3 key topics or themes you want to cover during the week. Keep it simple. You’re looking for posts that fit your overall business goals and will resonate with your audience.
Quick tip: Focus on the 3 E’s—Educate, Engage, and Entertain. Here’s how:
Educate: Share a helpful tip, a how-to, or industry insight that adds value. For example, if you’re a digital marketing expert, share a quick tip on SEO.
Engage: Post a question, a poll, or anything that sparks conversation. Example: "What’s your biggest social media challenge right now?"
Entertain: Share something lighthearted, like a behind-the-scenes moment or a funny meme. (Remember, social media isn’t all business!)
Step 2: Write Your Captions and Choose Your Visuals (30 minutes)
Now that you’ve got your topics, it’s time to write your captions and choose your visuals.
When it comes to captions, don’t overthink it. Speak in your brand voice, be authentic, and keep it clear. You want your audience to feel like they’re having a conversation with you.
Pair each caption with a visual—whether it’s a photo, graphic, or short video. Use free tools like Canva to create stunning visuals, or simply grab a photo that fits the vibe of your post.
Step 3: Schedule Your Posts (10 minutes)
This is the part where you save tons of time. Once your content is ready, it’s time to schedule your posts for the week. Here’s how you can do it:
Use a scheduling tool like Later, Buffer, or Hootsuite to upload your content and select your posting times.
If you don’t want to use a third-party tool, Facebook and Instagram both have native scheduling features you can use.
Set aside 10 minutes to upload everything, select your ideal post times, and let the system do the heavy lifting for you. Done! You’ve now planned a full week of social media in less than 1 hour!
Quick Recap:
Brainstorm Your Content (20 minutes): Focus on Educate, Engage, and Entertain.
Write Captions & Choose Visuals (30 minutes): Keep it simple and aligned with your brand voice.
Schedule Your Posts (10 minutes): Use a scheduling tool to automate your posting.
That’s it—60 minutes and your social media is planned for the entire week. Doesn’t get easier than that!
